So, after finding our beautiful piece of land and slowly educating ourselves on the world of olives... we needed to come up with a name for the 'project'. We threw around endless names but came back to one of the first that popped up - Two Black Dogs... Our two dogs are a huge part of the fun that comes with the land - they come to life on the property and can sniff around and do doggy things that they miss in the city sometimes. The older dog becomes a puppy again with a burst of energy when he can chase balls and swim in the dam, and the pup is growing up being surrounded by a whole lot of adventure!
We both enjoy creating and making something that is your own - food is one of those things that gives a great sense of satisfaction - trying and experimenting new flavours and techniques. Food brings people together, I can't think of anything better than being with friends and family, enjoying a relaxed platter of our olives, olive oil, homemade bread, dips and a glass of New Zealand wine. Bliss. Whether on a blanket beneath the whispy olive trees, soaking up the sun, or in front of the fire on a cold winters day its pretty special.
Keep a close eye on the two black dogs though, given any opportunity and they too will take on quality control and sample the goodies!!
We've met some of the friendliest, generous people, all happy to help with information and give their time as part of the start of our olive journey. We've had some great times so far, with many more to come. Thank you to all!!
